Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you offer your interior design services?
We offer our services in the Edmonton and surrounding area, including Beaumont, Leduc, Devon, Sherwood Park, and Strathcona County. Depending on the size of the project, we may consider doing a project elsewhere in Alberta, but travel time will be included in our design proposal.
What’s the first step in the interior design process?
We start with a discovery call to chat about your project and design goals. If we are a good fit for each other, we arrange a Deep Dive meeting to review your space in detail, explore your design goals, and provide you with a plan of action to launch your project.
Do you offer a free initial design consultation?
We appreciate that there are studios that will visit your home for free. Typically these free consultations are similar to a meet and greet, and we provide a complimentary discovery call that ultimately achieves the same end. During this call we will discuss what you are hoping to achieve with your project, and how best we feel we could support you. At the end of the call, provided it is a good fit, you’ll be provided with a roadmap of the next steps.
What is full-service design?
Full-service design is where our design team manages your home transformation project, from initial concept to design plan to implementation. Redesigning a home can be overwhelming and very time consuming for those unfamiliar with all that is involved. With our expertise and trained eye, you can relax knowing that we are managing all aspects of your project, start to finish.
During the full-service design process we evaluate your style and layout, pick out finishes and fixtures, and give you a final look that you’ll love. The main strength of our design process is our focus on the technical design. This includes all of the permit drawings, specifications for our suppliers, as well as the technical details to inform our trade partners in the field what the final product should look like, minimizing rework and maximizing quality.
How much do you charge as an interior designer and how do you determine your full-service design fees?
During the initial Deep Dive meeting we compile a list of your project scope of work and what design services would be beneficial for you. We then use our experience from past projects to calculate the amount of time it will take to complete your project, and put that together as a fixed design fee. Each project is unique, therefore design fees can vary greatly, but our full-service projects typically start at $7000 and go up from there based on the complexity and size of the project.
Why should I hire an interior designer to help implement the design for my home renovation? Isn’t that what a general contractor is for?
During your home renovation, a general contractor runs the day-to-day aspects, including scheduling trades and ordering materials. During implementation though, there are usually a multitude of design questions. By hiring an interior designer, you save the time and energy it takes to go through all these details with the general contractor and answer their questions.
Also, issues will commonly arise once walls are opened up. One of the biggest reasons to hire an interior designer is our problem-solving skills. We do this every day, so we’re great at collaborating with your general contractor to brainstorm creative ideas.
By hiring an interior designer to help implement your design you get your life back, and you are able to spend time doing things you actually enjoy.
When do you recommend hiring an interior designer?
The interior designer should be one of the first people you bring onto your team, along with an architect depending on the size of the project. An interior designer can provide valuable input on layout, space planning, and material selection that is necessary in order for your general contractor or builder to provide accurate project costs. Without a design plan they’re making a ton of assumptions as to the quality and design details you’d like in your home.
By hiring an interior designer right at the beginning of your project, they can create a design plan that fits within your preferred investment amount.
